hi folks, sorry not been on for a while, as you know i stopped taking mtx in think it was march, i have been fine as my doc gave me acoxia, which has been fine, i had apointment with rummy nurse last month he said it would be better if i took something,he precribed sulfasalazine, but before i could start i was taken into hospital with ulcers on the cornia of my eye i was on antibiotic drops every hr even through the night i got out 3 weeks ago and started on the sulfasalazine 1 for 2 weeks i am now starting 2 a day for 2 weeks is anyone else on this drug i am feeling ok no big flares so fingers crossed this one will be better than mtx which i just did not like taking, has anyone had ulcers on their cornia i was told it can be side affect of RA but have not heard of anyone having this prob apart from this im fine and hope you are all doing ok  sylvia xx

Hello from another Sylvia  . I'm newly diagnosed, so I don't think we've been introduced before. It's always nice to hear from other Sylvs, because it's not exactly a common name. Sorry to hear you've had problems with your eyes - that must be rather scary, but it sounds like you were in good hands. I can't offer any similar experiences, but I just wanted to say HI Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Sorry to hear this Sylvia. I got an ulcer in my cornea a couple of years ago, went to optician as it felt like I had some grit in it. I only had drops to put in at home though, which got rid of it. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

hi to sylvia from sylvia lol i havent been on for while so missed you joining our friendly bunch, my laptop had a we virus so son in law had to go in remove some parts but its fine now eye is getting better every day,at 1 point i was getting woke up every hr in hospital to get antibiotic drops and pills, still putting drops in 4 times a day at home go back to ayr hospital tues so fingers crossed it will be lot better, nice to meet you sylvia hi julie wish i could have got mine treated at opticians but on the mend now nice to hear from you as well take care love sylvia xx

Gosh Sylvia, that sounds awful. Is this connected with the RA in any way? Is it a complication of uveitis for example or is it completely unrelated. I think any kind of eye condition is terrifying......so I hope this clears up completely for you, and does so quickly. thank goodness you are in good hands. Please keep us updated. Naomi, X

hi naomi, i heard it could be relavent to RA but specalist didnt say, i have been getting treated now at ayr hospital for 4 weeks antibiotic drops plus pills now just on drops 4 times a day, i still cant see out eye only shadows, i wear dark glasses when i go out also cant work, as i am a carer to the elderly i am missing my work, hopefully when i see specalist tomorow news will be better, they put contact lens over cornia to protect it will keep you posted how i get on tomorow keep smiling sylvia xxx

hi sylvia. ive been quite lucky with my eyes. its only the dryness thats caused an issue at times. ulcers sound really grim and i hope things improve very soon jenni xx how to be a velvet bulldoser

hi folks just back from hospital specalist is very happy with how my cornia is healing, he said the scrape on cornia is getting smaller, i go back in 2 weeks, i still cant see out it only shadows but they are getting lighter, so fingers crossed next 2 weeks will show more progress, only putting in tear drops thats all thats needed,

hi everyone, still cant see very well from right eye, although it is getting better (so consultant says) i now have a steroid drop to put in once a day as well as the other dry eye drops 4 times a day, i must say since steroid drop went in i can now see colors lol if only i could see the person wearing the color, but consultant says its getting there so have to trust him, i go back week on tues and hope it a lot more clearer as i have not been able to see out it since 25 june its taking a long time to heal hope you are all enjoying the good weather my joints are all ok just now and i am getting out and attacking the weeds in the garden take care everyone will keep you posted on my eye. sylvia  xx

Hi Sylvia. I'm so pleased that you are getting continued improvement, and that the consultant is optimistic about your recovery. It sounds like this was a very serious condition that could have threatened your sight permanently. And people think RA is just a joint condition! Good luck with the rest of the treatment. Please let us know how it goes. hopefully you'll be posting soon to tell us that your sight is as good as it was before this happened. X

hi everyone, steroid drop is making a big diffrence i can see much clearer after i put it in in the mornings still have contact shield over cornia but glad i can see bit better at last, i still have dark glasses on going out during the day as light still hurts, but i am feeling a lot better now i can see bit better hope we all enjoying this better weather at last take care sylvia xxx

back to see eye specalist this morning, hope i get this conntact shield that is protecting the cornia out as i can feel it now dont know if thats right or not but will tell him sight is a lot better still blurry but better than it was keep smiling xxx sylvia

got contact shield out but sight will not improve as its been to badly damaged i have scar across cornia consultant said i was lucky i could have lost my eye, he said my left eye is fine i will need regular check ups, he said it usally happens to people who wear contact lens if they dont take care when cleaning them but has not known it in people who have never had them, i can only see shadows out it, but i dont notice it to much only when i close my left eye and try to see out it so im thankfull consultant at least helpt to heal it a bit xxsylvia
